Birthday to me ....

妹妹 is official in the Terrible Two stage! 爸爸 brought us to 鼎泰豐 at Paragon yesterday because 妹妹 loves their beef noodles (me too!). After that, we headed straight to the playground on the 4th or was it 5th floor. The kids had heaps of fun and didn't want to leave. Of course the Birthday Gal threw lots of tantrums.

We went passed a florist and 妹妹 saw this huge balloon and kept saying balloon, balloon. I got one for her and told 哥哥 if he could pay it and make it his present for his 妹妹. He was happy to do so. His original plan (he told me on Saturday) was to shop for a present for his 妹妹 and to treat her to Swensens' Ice Cream. Wah! So Nice!

That boy can't wait and kept asking when we are going to have ice-cream. Hmm. So who's more eager now. So to Swensen's for ice cream we went. As usual, 妹妹 resisted eating ice-cream at first but kept eating it after I 'forced' some in her mouth. To her ice-cream is in a cone like McDonald's. Hahaha.

It was a simple celebration but the kids (mostly 哥哥 I think) had fun!

Craft Fun

妹妹 did her very first craft today. As expected, she was curious and followed me to see what I had in my hands. She just refused to sit down. I guided her a few times and very soon she was 'chopping' the sponge away. Then there was her brother telling her where to 'chop'. I had fun! The kids had fun too!

Of course 妹妹 didn't want it to stop lah. She went to pick up another sponge but I was quick enough to remove the paint. There will be a next time, definitely!

* I want to try this shape too! *

Edible Art - Printed Bread

I have not done any craft with my son lately because we fell sick one after another. Plus the amount of homework and spelling my son has from school. I'm tired after guiding/monitoring him (otherwise his mind wanders off to somewhere else).

I was preparing Tea for my son and I thought why not him do it. Still consider a Craft and I bet my head for this that he will enjoy it. See, I still can post this - my head is still on my shoulders. hehehe~

Materials needed:

  • 1 slice of old (not stale) bread
  • Cookie cutters
How to do it:
  1. Just press the cookie cutters on the bread.
  2. Don't press too hard and cut out the shape. That's not what we want. Just hard enough to get the shape imprinted on the bread.
  3. Toast the bread using a toaster or like us, using frying pan with the bread face down. Not too hot though. Otherwise it will get burnt.
  4. Mommy check and remove bread from frying pan.
  5. Since you can keep this piece of craft, eat it! Remember to scrape the burned part off the bread before eating.
Note:
  • If you don't have cookie cutter, try using a chopstick to 'write' in the bread using slight pressure.
  • I used old bread because it's tougher than fresh ones. It won't be cut through as easily.
  • CAUTION: Only turn on the heat when your kid has put the bread on the pan and leave the stove. Don't allow your kid to monitor the bread. Remember to cool the bread first before letting your kids hold it.

This is what I call edible art!!

* Yummy! I'm eating the craft I did! *

Sponge Fun

My daughter had her very first Art & Craft fun today. I think she enjoyed it because she wanted to do another piece when finished it.

This is really really simple but be ready for the mess, although our first session was surprising 'clean' except for her coloured hands.

Materials needed:

  • Paper
  • Paint - Toxic free and washable
  • Sponge - We used a heart

How to do it:
  1. Dilute paint with a bit of water.
  2. I use a paper plate to hold the paint so there's lesser things to wash.
  3. Press sponge on paint then transfer to the paper.

My daughter got the hang of it after I guide her a couple times. Yeah, we will definately do this again!

No peanuts, No Monkey.

I saw this video on Decay on Net. I thought I got over (being angry) on the minister pay hike matter but after reading his blog, got me heated up again. Maybe I just don't understand how they rule the country. So, now we have to see Singapore as a MNC not a country? So it that how it works now? So they want to be a Minister because it a well paid job?

Pay not attractive enough? Resign and join another MNC lor. Who give me more peanuts, I go perform there. Talk about commitment. Sigh! They should try being a Stay-at-home-mum! Pay rise? What pay rise? Oh, and I like that part about Singaporean women might become maid and Singaporean men, construction worker. Ai ya! But I'm already a maid what? My hubby? He's a high-class construction worker lor. He is in construction sector mah. Threats? Ohhhhh ... I so very afraid! Next time, I must tell my son, Be a doctor not because you want to save lives but because it pays better.

Please don't let my area get a walk-over for the next election. I want to vote!!!

Ps. Monkeys will never get enough peanuts.

Sigh! Sick again

妹妹 got a sratch on her leg from a fall some time back. 妹妹 refuse to like the wound heal. She kept poking at it and it made the wound bleed and bigger. It must have been itchy. Poor girl!

Now the wound is 3 times bigger that what it originally was and she has got an infection. It spread to 2 other place where there are cuts too. Told you she is a rough girl. Sigh! Took her to the doctor and she was told to be on antibiotics again. She just finished taking one, few days ago for her cough and flu. This girl huh don't know is it she got thick skin or what. I clean her wound, she didn't cry. Some more can lift up her legs to me when I tell her I'm going to apply medicine for her. Not pain one meh?

Anyway, I don't know why she suddenly has fever today. Sigh! She was okay before today. Hope it's not another virus. Sigh! Hope I didn't pass my virus to her! *worried* Yap, I'm still not well yet. Still coughing like mad plus that runny nose. Hate it! I can't breathe thru my nose and when I breathe thru my mouth, I start coughing non stop. Urgh! Then I have to put on the mask when I carry 妹妹. People look at me like I got SARs. Sigh! April ... bad month. 4 more days to go. Quickly go and virus, don't follow May huh. Stay with April!!

Opps! *Pout*

Each time, 妹妹 saw me catching her taking things that she is not suppose to take, she will put the thing back and then promptly gives me a pouting expression coupled with sound effects.

This girl! How to be angry with her?

Who's sick now?

My kids has been sick for the past week. They have not fully recovered yet but at least they are so much better. I just hope their appetite will improved too. 妹妹 simply refuse to eat anything other than fish balls. At least 哥哥 is eating in small portions.

Anyway, I thought I was very strong. Hahaha. But I was very wrong. I just couldn't win the battle from virus the 2 kids released. Now, I'm having a very bad sore throat and sneezing constantly. Sigh. I guess I have to 'donate' some money to the clinic liao. In the mean time, the kids will see me walking around them with a mask on. I don't want to pass it back to them.

Urgh! We are ill!

The kids have been free of illness this year till now. 哥哥 has been coughing for more than 2 weeks and we have been to the GP twice - no improvement. Then he passed it to 妹妹.

Poor girl had phlegm stuck in the throat and has a very bad running nose. It must be 'tickling' her because she couldn't sleep and just keep coughing till she throw up the phlegm. She has been throwing up 4 to 5 times at night for the passed 3 nights. She couldn't eat and drink too because I think her throat must be very sore from the coughing. GP's medication didn't work too.

I let 哥哥 skipped school today and bought them to the Paediatrician at Gleneagles. 爸爸 has a very important meeting with the CEO of HDB so I'm on my own. These 2 don't look and behave anything like they are sick. I have to chase them all over the place and I'm like half dead now. Maybe I'm the one who needs a doctor.

Anyways, the Pead said 妹妹 should be better if her running nose clears. The mucus flowed back to her throat and that caused the coughing. So replacement medicines for flu and to strengthen her lungs. BUT, 哥哥 has chronic cough and is now wheezing, has been put on replacement medications which includes 2 types of inhalers! So serious ah?! Luckier the kids don't have a problem taking medicines. 妹妹 even asked for more. So it's less stressful for me to feed them medicine.

The trip cost me around $270 excluding transport. Haiz! What to do $2,700 also need to pay if it helps get them well lah. My only wish is it will be speedier.

Love my hair?

Every time 妹妹 get noticed on the street and get commented is of her hair!! They love her hair!

I like straight hair because it's so much easier to manage and neater looking. But I have to admit, if I see someone else's daughter or granddaughter with hair like 妹妹's, I would love it too! Thick and with big curls which are only at the ends. Some people thought I had her hair permed!

Don't you love it? ...... *shameless*

Carton Playhouse

I kept the big carton from the washer we bought, thinking of using it as a craft material to make a playhouse. The kids can't wait. See what they did with it? I don't think I can make the house looking at the condition of the carton now. It will not pass the building inspection.

Wheeee .... We're having fun!

I have decided to let my trusty Thomson washing machine of nine years to finally rest in peace. It's still working but it made so much noise I worried my neighbours would lodge a complain on me. Since it's so costly to get it repaired, I might as well get a new one. This time I bought a cheap Japanese made one. Thank you, Tommy, for serving the family for so many year. Time for you to take a long break.

I persuaded my hubby to go to IMM (we went there to get out washer) early yesterday so the kids can have fun at the playground. I'm not sure how long we were at the playground but when it was time to go, they made soooo much noise. My poor kids! They seldom go to the playground because the one near our place is always being vandalised and I worried that something might break while playing.

We left only after lunch and this 妹妹 was so beat that she fell asleep on my lap on the way home. That was after she struggled so much to get away from my arms. She had to lie down to sleep, simply refused to be carried to sleep. Hahaha!

Meow is C-A-T

I did some flash cards to teach 哥哥 spelling. I end up not using them because the results were slow and we didn't have time because these words will be tested in school.

I didn't want to waste the cards I have prepared so I used it on 妹妹 instead. And boy was I surprised when I heard her saying "c-a-t, cat" few days ago out of the blue! I asked her again but she refused to say it again. Wow! Wow! Wow! Can't wait for her to spell to me again.

Spelling and 听写

哥哥's school has started giving spelling and 听写 this month. Every Tuesday for spelling and Thursday for 听写. Homework has also increased. Now I have to spend more time coaching me. I think I'm going to have to cut down my PC time.

So far, he had had 1 spelling with full marks and 2 听写 with the 1st one having a mistake and the 2nd one full marks too. I'm surprise he didn't get all right the 1st time because he already know the word. But I'm proud of him because he at least make an effort to practise (almost) everyday.

Let's just hope his hardworking habit continues.

What do you know about bones?

My son came to me out of the blue to tell me about bones ....

哥哥: 妈妈, I tell you something. You know, bones are very important.
妈妈: Is it?
哥哥: Yes! It makes all our body parts hard.
妈妈: Hmmm ...
哥哥: You cannot see it but inside are all bones (offering me his arms to me to feel it). Hard, hard hor?
妈妈: Hmm ... oh, yes!
哥哥: If we don't have bones, our body will be very soft. Like a doll, floppy floppy.
妈妈: How did you know all these?
哥哥: I learn it myself.
妈妈: From where?
哥哥: The VCD you bought for me, lor.

And who said watching VCDs is not good for kids?

Happy Birthday, 哥哥

哥哥 turned 5 yesterday. It's no April's Fool joke okay. We went to Swensen's at Jurong Point to celebrate his birthday.

We always go there because it's spacious and the staff there is friendly, the service is good and we don't have to wait very long for your food. The staff there even came over to sing the birthday song to 哥哥. 妹妹 was so stunned by the loud singing and clapping, she began to cry! It was so funny!

We had a great time! Lucky it fell on Sunday otherwise, we won't be able to do it. We have decided to go there again on 妹妹's birthday which is the last Sunday of this month. Yippee! Ice-cream for me again!

To my son ...

You don't understand the hardship 妈妈 went through when I was pregnant with you. Someday, you will. When it's finally time for you to meet us, you refused to come out. Everyone thought it was an April's Fool joke when I told them you are finally here to meet the world.

Now, that you are 5, I really do hope you will continue to be a good boy you are. Get rid of some of your really bad habits and be a bit more sensible.

No matter much I scolded or beat you (when you really drive me up the wall) , I do love you very much. It's just one of my ways to show that I care. I'm an old fashion mother, okay? Happy 5th Birthday, son!

With lots of love from 妈妈 and everyone at home.

*Happy Birthday 哥哥! Come, come, 妹妹 hug-hug you!*
