Tough Cookie

Bought 妹妹 for her 18 mths jap last week. Yes! How time flies! My sweetie is 18 mths old now. When the Paediatrician began to ask me questions, I realized I'm supposed to monitor 妹妹's development from the guide given in the health book! Ai yo! This 妈妈! How can I forget?

  • Pead: How is she eating? Any sleeping problems?
  • 妈: She drinks 9oz of milk 3-4 times and 2 feeds of porridge a day. She sleeps very well.
  • Pead: Eats so much? Can't tell!
  • 妈: Ya, don't know where all the food has gone.
  • Pead: Does she keep rubbing her eyes?
  • 妈: No, only when she is sleepy.
  • Pead: Can she response when her name is called? Can she response to sounds?
  • 妈: Yes.Pead: Can she drink from a cup?
  • 妈: Yes but some times she will spill some water.
  • Pead: Does she imitate you or anyone at home? Example, doing housework?
  • 妈: Yes, she likes to sweep the floor and cleans the table.
  • Pead: Can she points to her body parts?
  • 妈: Yes.Pead: Does she try to scribble?
  • 妈: Yes, a lot!
  • Pead: I presume she know how to call PaPa & Mama? What about other words?
  • 妈: She knows a few other words but only repeats a few words.
  • Pead: That’s okay.
  • Pead: Have you tried to let her climb up and down stairs?
  • 妈: Yes, if the stairs are high, she will hold on to the railing to get up and down. Otherwise, she can climb up and down small steps on her own without holding on to anything.
  • Pead: Very good.

Then the Pead continued with her tests on 妹妹 like making her stack-up blocks, weighed and measured her and checked her eyes and ears, etc. 妹妹 is not very heavy. She only weighs 10.1kg but I think she is quite tall – 82cm. Then the dreadful part was finally here. The needle! I was to hold her down while the Pead gave her the jap. The next second, it was over. No crying! Tough cookie, this girl!

Her next check up will be when she is 2 year old and I was to consider if I want to let her take the Pneumococcal Vaccine, which is S$180. Hmm … I should consider letting 哥哥 take the jap. I think he will probably struggle so much that we might have to tight him to a chair!
